Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister for Local Government & Special Development Wasim Akhtar has said that the new Karachi nazim will be from the Haq Parast panel, and dispelled the reports of any retired bureaucrat becoming the Karachi Nazim.
Talking to newsmen after his meeting with the Association of Builders & Developers (ABAD) he claimed that the Haq Parast panel has the majority to bring in nazims in 14 towns of the city without the support of any group.
Besides, the Haq Parast panel has also the majority to bring their nazim in Hyderabad, he added.
Wasim Akhtar, however, said that the final decision lies with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Co-ordination Committee.
About giving the deputy city nazim seat to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, the advisor termed the different news circulating in this regard as speculations.
On problems faced by ABAD, he told newsmen that a committee would be formed having the representation from all utilities and ABAD to tackle these problems and a meeting would be held on Monday in this regard.
Earlier, speaking to members of ABAD, the advisor said that problems of builders have accumulated over the years due to corruption of past governments.
Responding to the speech of ABAD chairman, in which he spoke about the difficulties faced by the builders, he said a meeting has been arranged on Monday, in which officials of the concerned departments and members of ABAD will sit together to find out the solution of these problems.
On complaints about the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB), he pointed out that problems multiplied due to the past legacy, when land was used as "political bribe".
However, he declared that Sindh government is doing its utmost to resolve the builders' problems.
Earlier, chairman ABAD Babar Mirza Chughtai spoke at length on problems of builders and was critical of the role of the concerned government departments, particularly Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB), in resolving these problems.
He regretted that despite the labour intensive industry, the construction and housing sector is confronted with major problems in Karachi. "Several laws, which do not exist in other parts of the country, are (in force) in Karachi, resulting in capital flow to the up-country and abroad," he added.
Managing Director (KW&SB) Brigadier Iftikhar Haider also spoke on the occasion.
