The Indian shipping companies have proposed to their government to utilise Karachi seaport for trade between Rajasthan and Ahmedabad. The Karachi seaport is the most suitable and instrumental for reducing trade deficit of Indian Northern Areas, Shipper's Council of Southern India President Sri Nawasan said.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that the shipper's council would request the government to address this proposal as a confidence-building measure.
India was considering using the Iranian seaport, but the Karachi seaport is ideal for a better operation, he said.
Pakistan's Ports and Shipping Director Captain Anwar Shah said that India has not so far accepted the proposal for shipping protocol with them.
Pak-India shipping industry's collaboration could only be promoted after the amendments in Pakistan's shipping protocol, he added.
