The Automotive Industry in Pakistan has experienced phenomenal growth in the recent past and is expected to deliver even more growth in the future. ICI Industrial Coatings has been able to deliver Paint, which is one of the most important and complex components of automotive manufacturing to the standards and requirements of the automotive industry and enjoys a significant share at the leading automotive manufacturers.
ICI has been associated with automotive assembly operations in Pakistan from the earliest days when the forerunner of Pak Suzuki Motor Company, Awami Autos, was assembling Suzuki commercial vehicles in a plant located at West Wharf, Karachi. In those pioneering days vehicles were pushed around by hand between various workstations inside the assembly plant. Over the years, many small step improvements were to evolve progressively and ICI was able to match and contribute in this progress by providing customised products and services tailored to the changing needs.
As the passenger car assembly evolved in Pakistan, goal posts shifted in terms of quality of finish, gloss levels, color range, etc Car buyers became more discerning and demanded more exacting standards, requiring new technology hitherto not available in Pakistan. ICI Pakistan acquired this technology through licensing agreements with Nihon Parkerizing and Kansai Paints of Japan, the leading Pre-treatment Chemicals and Automotive paint manufacturers of the world respectively. This enabled ICI to supply paint and pre-treatment products as per original Japanese specifications. A large number of ICI chemists and production staff visited Japan to acquire necessary training in formulation, manufacture, application and on-line technical service. Regular visits by Japanese professionals allowed ICI customers to get the latest in world-class technical service. The techno-commercial sales force of ICI was well equipped to provide complete technical assistance, on-line troubleshooting, and guidance in system selection
As part of Automotive Industry's deletion program of imported components for assembly and manufacturing, ICI has been taking the initiative of localising existing paints & coatings and also to develop in-house expertise in worldwide cutting edge technologies.
ICI, which has a strong focus on Safety, Health and Environment driven by its corporate policies, was also instrumental in introducing Lead free cathodic elecrocoat and electrostatic painting in the industry.
ICI and the Automotive Industry of Pakistan have operated as partners with total professionalism, dedication and commitment. Technological and painting process techniques are unfolding at such a breath-taking speed and new challenges are coming up at such a frequency that constant upgrades are required to keep pace with these developments. ICI Pakistan continues to invest in order to ensure that the benefits of such new advances become available to its customers in Pakistan and the Region.
Recently ICI Industrial Coatings signed an Agreement for OEM Products to serve the Iranian automotive OEM market, the largest in the Middle East. Export of a complete range of automotive products to Iran will be initiated shortly.
ICI Industrial Coatings has the resources to cater the growing Automotive Industry of Pakistan and the Region efficiently, and is committed to serving its customers to their entire satisfaction.
