Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman on Saturday discussed in detail the progress on the National Finance Commission award. The prime minister assured the governor that the NFC would be finalised in the best interest of all stakeholders. The assurance was given during a meeting of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz with NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman, who called on him during his visit to federal capital.
Khalil-ur-Rehman appreciated the initiatives and the personal efforts of Shaukat Aziz for setting up an arbitrary committee to resolve the longstanding issue of net-hydel profits, which has been lingering for the last 15 years.
The prime minister assured that the federal government had established the committee to resolve this outstanding dispute for all times to come in a just and equitable manner. The Pakistan Muslim League and its allied parties are in the committee to resolve all outstanding issues so that the people of NWFP can enjoy the fruits of economic prosperity, he added.
The NWFP governor briefed the Prime Minister on the current situation in the province as well as the federally-administered tribal areas (Fata).
The prime minister complimented the NWFP governor for his efforts in increasing the pace of development work in Fata which include construction of buildings, roads, schools as well as development of agriculture and other infrastructure facilities.
Shaukat Aziz especially appreciated the role of armed forces in maintaining security and augmenting civil administration in carrying out development work in Waziristan Agency.
The NWFP governor congratulated the prime minister on the passage of people-friendly budget where in a record amount has been allocated under the public sector development programme, which will create more job opportunities, improve infrastructure, and accelerate the pace of development work in the country.
Shaukat Aziz said the government has allocated a substantial amount under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme to increase the quality of life of the people and improve infrastructure, as well as to accelerate the pace of development in the country with special emphasis on the social sector development. The programme includes provision of clean drinking water at the union council level for providing clean water to the masses so that water-borne diseases especially hepatitis can be controlled.
Khalil-ur-Rehman informed Shaukat Aziz that there is now a realisation among the people of Fata that the federal government is serious in resolving the problems facing them as it has not only allocated huge amounts for development work, but also accelerated the pace of development in Fata.
