The campaign started with free SMS for the month of May and now Telenor has cut down call and SMS charges for Telenor pre-paid customers. The new call and SMS charges will be effective from June 19, 2005. The details of the new package are: Pre-paid voice charges from Rs 3.99/minute to Rs 3.45/minute (Nationwide, all networks). Pre-paid SMS charges from Rs 1.50/SMS to Rs 1.00/SMS (Nationwide, all networks). Post-paid SMS charges from Rs 1.50/SMS to Rs 1.00/SMS (all packages, Nationwide, all networks).
Telenor Pakistan has its network in nine cities which covers a population of approximately 35.29 million people including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Jehlum.
Further cities will be added according to the continuous roll out plan. The license conditions demand 70 percent coverage of all Tehsil Headquarters.
On April 14, 2004, Telenor received a GSM license for the price of US$291 million. Telenor launched its services in March 2005 and reported 343,000 subscribers only two weeks after the commercial launch.
Telenor Pakistan is a newcomer among 12 Telenor mobile companies world-wide, with a total subscriber base of 60.1 million world-wide.
The company is 100 percent owned by Telenor and adds Pakistan to operations in Asia together with Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh.-PR
