DPO DIRECTED: The Lahore High Court (LHC), while taking note of illegalities being committed by the Faisalabad police, has directed district police officer (DPO) Faisalabad to get registered FIR against Sub-Inspector Zakir Hussain. The court, while setting detainee Sher Muhammad Lali at liberty, observed that police officials, who misused their powers, did not deserve any lenient attitude.
The court passed these orders during the course of proceedings in a petition filed for the recovery of Zakir Hussain. The court had appointed a bailiff, which found the detainee in the illegal custody of the respondent police officials.
The court, after examining the bailiff' s report set the detainee at liberty, and also directed DPO to get registered a criminal case against the respondent police official and take disciplinary action against him.
NOTICE TO SSP: A local civil judge has issued notice to SSP Lahore for March 13, in a petition by Muhammad Saleem against the provincial government's decision regarding compulsory wearing of helmet while driving a motorcycle. The petitioner contended that he was wearing turban in accordance with the Islamic injunctions.
He submitted he was a salesman in a calling card company and used to deal with about hundreds of people daily, therefore, it was not possible for him to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.
He, therefore, prayed to the court to declare compulsory wearing of helmet as illegal, unconstitutional and imposed without lawful authority. He also prayed to the court to direct the respondent police officials not to disturb the petitioner and other citizens.
The court, after hearing petitioner's counsel at length, issued notice to SSP Lahore for March 13 and rose for the day.
HEARING PUT OFF: An accountability court on Friday adjourned the proceedings in a reference against acting president PML-N Javed Hashmi MNA after recording the statements of three prosecution witnesses. The accused Javed Hashmi has been facing the charges of corruption and making illegal assets in excess of his income.
