Khokhrapar route: Prime Minister approves laying of broad gauge rail track
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has approved the laying of broad gauge railway track on 130km Khokhrapar-Monabao route, which Pakistan Railways would complete in 11 months, official sources said on Friday. The inspection work of the track to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 2 billion has already been completed. According to the sources, there were two options with the Ministry of Railways either to rehabilitate the existing narrow-gauge track or to lay a new broad-gauge track.
It has been decided to lay broad-gauge track in minimum possible time.
It would take two hours and 45 minutes for the passengers to travel between Khokhrapar and Monabao.
The Khokhrapar station would become functional with little repair work while bridges and stations falling in the route need considerable mending.
