ISLAMABAD: The consumer price index (CPI) based monthly inflation of the country increased by 1.34 per cent in July as compared to the previous month.
The annual inflation rate during July, 2016 remained 4.12 per cent as compared to same month of last year, Director General Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Arif Cheema told the newsmen here on Monday.
Similarly, he said, in July, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation increased by 2.34 per cent while Sensitive Price Index increased by 1.32 per cent.
He said the main cause of the increase in inflation rate during the month was sharp increase of perishable food items.
The food items which increased during the month included tomatoes (98.22%), Bottle Gourd (78.1%), bitter gourd (53%), courgettes (Turi) (52.01%), Tinda (26.5%), Lady Finger (70.33%), Garlic (23.73%), Brinjal (23.5%), Potatoes (17.45%), Gram whole yellow (13.03%), eggs (8.89%), gram flour (5.87%), pulse gram (5.63%), sugar (3.6%) and house rent (1.74%).
Likewise, prices of the food items which decreased during July, 2016 as compared to same month of last year included lemon (21.44%), plum (14.81%), bananas (8.09%), chicken farm (4.51%), mango (4.49%), iron bar (2.35%), gas cylinder (1.16%), pulse moong (0.93%), ginger (0.93%), pulse mash (0.88%) and vegetable ghee (0.77%).
