JAKARTA: Indonesia's refined tin exports in September slipped 24 percent compared to the same month a year ago, a trade ministry official said on Monday.
Indonesia, the world's top refined tin exporter, shipped 5,233.06 tonnes in September, compared to 6,904.37 tonnes in September last year, trade ministry data showed.
Indonesian refined tin exports for January to September were 73,273.38 tonnes, the data added.
Smelters in Indonesia's main tin producing region of Bangka island halted tin ingot exports on Oct. 1, in an effort to support falling global prices.
Late on Thursday, the Indonesian Tin Industry Association said it expected the export ban to last one month, before prices hit the $25,000 a tonne level demanded by many smelters.
Tin, mainly used in solders for electronics, struck a record high above $33,000 in April but like other base metals has slumped in recent weeks, and closed at $22,900 on Friday.
