FWO - A Legend in Nation Building

Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) - a legend in undertaking development projects of national importance and significance, is a self-sustained Army formation which was established in 1966, with major bulk of its workforce drawn from Army Corps of Engineers, for the construction of Karakoram Highway (KKH). FWO is governed by a Project Board headed by Engineer-in-Chief, Pakistan Army, with members drawn from the Army and Military Finance.
Director General FWO - the technical and administrative head, is also member of the Project Board, Headquarters FWO with supporting units is located at Rawalpindi, whereas four Engineers Groups, the main work engines, having number of Army Engineers and especially designed construction units are deployed in various parts of Pakistan.
FWO has a large trained and expert workforce comprising of qualified officers and men, supported by other requisite technical staff, for executing varied engineering projects. FWO has one of the largest pool of earth moving and other construction plant, equipment and machinery in Pakistan.
FWO, till date, has completed large number of projects worth billions of rupees. Some of the projects of national importance and significance completed by FWO are:
Road Network
Northern Areas Karakoram Highway, KKH-Skardu, Astore Valley, Giligit-Gupis, Skardu-Chilum Chauki, Thelechi-Astore-Chilum Chauki and Gakuch-Gupis-Mastuj Roads.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Various AJK Roads including Sensa - Sarsawa - Trarkhel, Muzaffarabad - Shardi and Ghori - Deolian.
NWFP Chakdara - Chitral, Haripur-Chappar and Barian-Nathiagali - Abbottabad.
Sindh Ratodero-Ghauspur, Ratodero-Shahdadkot, Baberlo-Ghotki, Ghotki-Ubauro, Road network in Pano Aqil Cantt, Southern Expressway across China Creek and road network in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi.
Balochistan Quetta-Sibi, Zhob-Mughalkot, Dhanesar-Mughalkot. Sariab Bypass Quetta, Dera Allahyar-Nuttal (N-65) and Mekran Coastal Highway (Lyari-Ormara Section - 248 Kms) and Pasni-Gwadar section (132 Kms).
Punjab Up-gradation of various urban roads in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.
Airfields Construction of airfields at Vehari, Rajanpur, Skardu, Bhagtanwala, Mangla, Kohat, Rawalkot, Parachinar and re-carpeting of number of runways etc.
Dam, Irrigation and Drainage Works Consturction of Khanpur Dam, Nusrat/Aqil Loop Bunds, Khushab SCARP, Irrigation and Drainage Channels in Rahimyar Khan, Pano Aqil and Multan, and Drainage Works in Karachi etc. Thermal and Hydel Power Stations
Civil Works of Oil Fired Thermal Power Stations at Jamshoro and Muzaffargarh, and an additional unit at Mangla Hydel Power Station etc.
Mine Field Clearance Project at Kuwait FWO had the honour of completing minefield clearance and area proofing in allotted sector in Kuwait after the 1992 Gulf War.
FWO is presently engaged in completing various projects of national importance worth around Rs 33 billion and has an annual turnover of Rs 6 to 7 billion.
Some of the important ones include construction of Road Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad, D I Khan-Mughalkot, Dual Carriageway (N-5) Rahim Yar Khan - Trinda Muhammad Panah, Lyari Expressway Karachi, Nuttal-Sibi (N-65), Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Kohat, Highway Lahore-Sheikhupura-Faisalabad, Dual Carriageway (BOT-1) Project, development works in G-13 Sector, Islamabad, construction of six roads of Capital Development Authority, Laying of Optical Fibre Cable in Rawalpindi and surrounding area and Development work of services in Gujranwala Industrial Estate. FWO is also responsible to maintain Karakoram Highway and Skardu Road in the Northern Areas.
FWO equipped with large pool of construction machinery and men backed by compatible know-how, experience and expertise is capable of undertaking multifarious mega development projects, both within and outside Pakistan.
