In a bid to remove apprehensions of consumers regarding Pakistani chicken and to promote the use of chicken, Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) held a rally at Faisal Chowk here on Saturday.
More than two hundred traders and businessmen associated with poultry industry marched on the Mall Road.
They were carrying broast chicken and boiled eggs, to show the people that Pakistani chicken is safe for public health. They also chanted slogans against the media trial of Pakistani poultry industry.
Talking to newsmen, representatives of the PPA including Yousaf Ihsan Khokhar Central Chairman, Tariq Javaid President Lahore Poultry Traders Association demanded of the government to give compensation to the poultry industry, as it had to face huge losses due to baseless allegations.
Moreover, representatives of PPA including Yousaf Ihsan, and Iftikhar Hussain demanded of the government to stop media trial of poultry industry of Pakistan, as it is adversely affecting the industry.
They told Business Recorder that Avian influenza in Pakistan is not new, however it has caused a heavy mortality in Karachi in recent months.
Avian influenza H-7 & H-9 found in Pakistan is not transmittable to human and likewise poultry meat and eggs are not the source of transmission even in the birds. So there is no way to stop eating poultry meat and eggs, they said.
They requested the media to play positive role and abstain from creating panic amongst the masses.
They were of the view that prices and sale of the poultry products have declined significantly because of negative propaganda against the industry.
"If this practice continues, the poultry industry of Pakistan would suffer a loss of billions of rupees.
PPA is collecting data regarding losses suffered by poultry sector, and future line of action would be announced after Eid, they said.
