LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday re-issued notices to Mustafa Kanju and others on an appeal against their acquittal in Zain murder case.
The bench ordered the Station House Officer South Cantt Police Station to ensure serving of the notices and submit a report in this regard on February 3.
The LHC bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi re-issued notices on an appeal filed by the provincial prosecution department.
As the proceedings started, co-accused Sikandar Azam appeared before the court in compliance to the notices. However, Mustafa Kanju, Sadiq Amin, Asif Rehman, Akram ul Haq and Shahzad Iqbal did not appear.
At this stage, an ASI apprised the court that he went to the residence of Mustafa Kanju to serve the court notices but it was informed that the accused had gone to Canada.
To which, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad told the court that a judicial magistrate had initiated proceedings to declare Mustafa Kanju as a proclaimed offender in another case. He requested the court to initiate proceedings for declaring the accused as proclaimed offender.
However, the bench ordering for reissuance of notices observed that if the accused failed to appear despite service of the notices then the court would proceed as per law in the matter.
