ISLAMABAD: Sheffield's IBF welterweight king Brook Kell insists that Pakistan-origin British boxer Amir Khan has no other option but to face him this summer after Manny Pacquiao followed Floyd Mayweather Junior's lead in snubbing the Bolton banger.
Khan, 29, had been holding out for a money-spinning showdown against the Filipino after Mayweather chose Andre Berto as his opponent for his last fight in September. But Pacquiao signed on to face Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas in April to dash the Brit's hopes. That leaves Brook, also 29, as the obvious fight for Khan, and the Sheffield fighter, who defends his title against Canadian Kevin Bizier in March, said: "Khan has nowhere else to go. He was waiting and waiting for Mayweather, didn't get it, then he waited for Pacquiao, and never got it. The fight against me is there to be made, it's the biggest fight out there for him and he has nowhere to hide now," Brook was quoted as saying by British website mirror.co.uk.
"I'm hearing very positive things about matching me and Khan and it will be massive. My promoter Eddie Hearn has said it looks good but I've heard it before and until a contract is signed I won't get excited about it."
"You know the fight everyone wants is against Khan, or the likes of Tim Bradley, Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia. These are the type of fighters I want to fight. I've not been in good company opponents-wise and I want to jump on them this year," he added.
