Honda’s Sports Jet ready to lift off

Published December 16, 2015 Updated December 16, 2015 12:41pm

imageAn equivalent of sport car is soaring up in the air. Honda’s latest aviation is being termed as game changer in air industry. Even though it is Honda Jet HA 420 is first venture of Honda up in the air, it is already soaring and given the welcome it is receiving it looks like it will soon be a force to reckon with.

Forbes reported that Honda Aircraft CEO Michimasa Fujino calls it the Acura of its class. AirInsight Partner Ernst Arvai was reported as saying, “It is the high performance sports car in the sky. Honda Jet offers higher performance for its higher price: a speed of 420 knots, a higher operating altitude up to 43,000 feet and is 17% more fuel efficient than its competition.”

Forbes further reported that the plane is special in the way in which Honda Jet has tweaked the aerodynamics with a unique design and deployed new materials that contribute to its efficiency. The major aerodynamic change is the unique placement of the GE-Honda engines above the wing. Fujino defied conventional wisdom, which said doing so would negatively impact wing aerodynamics.

“With the engines above the wings Honda Jet leverages natural laminar flow technology to optimize the aerodynamic performance of the wing and fuselage adding to its efficiency,” said Arvai. “The HondaJet has a unique design compared to competitors whose engines are attached to the fuselage.”

Honda developed its own turbo engines in collaboration with GE Aviation as opposed to buying engines from outside sources. The Jet is all geared up to give existing Aviation companies like Bombardier, Embraer, Textron, etc, a ‘fly’ for the money.
