Brazil 11/12 soy crop seen at 75.2 mn T: Celeres
SAO PAULO: Brazilian grains analysts Celeres said on Monday it expects the country's 2011/2012 soy crop to reach a record high 75.2 million tonnes, the same forecast as in August.
If confirmed, the crop will beat last year's 74.9 million tonnes, the current record. The total area planted with soybeans is also expected to rise in the 2011/2012 crop year.
"In 2011/2012, Brazil will probably reach a record in terms of total planted area with (soy)," the group said.
Celeres said that area would be even larger if it weren't for the expected 30 percent increase in corn planting in the state of Parana.
The analysts maintained their previous forecast for Brazil's 2011/12 corn crop at 58.4 million tonnes.
Brazil's harvest year begins July 1 and ends June 30.
