PARIS: French stocks were down more than 4.0 percent in midday trading on Monday, hit by a slump in banking shares amid concerns about eurozone debt and weak US growth, traders said.
The CAC 40 index was showing a fall of 126.22 points to 3,022.31 points, and shares in Societe Generale bank were down 8.87 percent to 20.20 euros. Across continental Europe, the main stock markets were showing falls of more than 3.0 percent.
