NEW YORK: Wall Street stocks extended losses on Tuesday following a weaker-than-expected reading on consumer confidence.
The declines followed a nearly 8 percent rally over the past five sessions.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 79.96 points, or 0.69 percent, at 11,459.29. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 10.33 points, or 0.85 percent, at 1,199.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 16.93 points, or 0.66 percent, at 2,545.18.
