HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares ended 1.44 percent higher Monday as dealers welcomed a speech from US Fed chief Ben Bernanke that left the door open for further stimulus measures down the road.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 282.23 points to 19,865.11 on turnover of HK$53.05 billion ($6.80 billion).
Chinese shares closed down 1.37 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, ended down 35.78 points at 2,576.41 on turnover of 78.4 billion yuan ($12.3 billion).
