KU, University of Rhode Island ink MoU

KARACHI: The University of Karachi on behalf of its International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Rhode Island (URI, USA) to establish a productive cooperative relations between the two institutions.

The ICCBS (HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry and Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research) and URI are desirous to especially develop academic and cultural interchange between the two institutions in education, research and other areas of mutual interest and benefits, it was pointed out.

The signing ceremony was held at the office of the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University and Director ICCBS Prof Dr M Iqbal Chaudhry signed the MoU, while President University of Rhode Island David M. Dooley inked the MoU on behalf of his institution.

The areas of cooperation includes pharmaceutical sciences, medical chemistry, molecular medicine, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, and standardization of herbal medicines relevant to both institutions, in which the two institutions believe cooperation is feasible and desirable and which would contribute to fostering and developing a mutually beneficial relationship between the two institutions.

According to the agreement, both the institutions have agreed to enhance relations between the two Universities and to develop academic exchange in the area of education and research, and have agreed to identify team members to work on joint research projects.

The collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad program, collaborative research programs, including the exchange of voucher samples, joint seminars, workshops, and service programs.

This Agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties and may be terminated by either party's giving six months written notice to the other party', spokesman of the ICCBS said.
