TOKYO: Japan's Nikkei index closed down 1.04 percent on Monday as concerns about the strength of the yen, which last week struck a postwar high against the dollar, weighed on exporter shares.
The headline index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 91.11 points to 8,628.13. The Topix index fell 1.18 percent, or 8.85 points, to 742.84.
