GLASGOW: Rangers new manager Stuart McCall is confident the troubled Glasgow giants have finally turned the corner and are in line for a return to the top flight.
A former player at the club, McCall oversaw his first win as manager last week with a crucial 2-0 win over Hibernian in Edinburgh.
On Saturday his side recorded their first home win at Ibrox in almost three months with a 4-1 pasting of Cowdenbeath.
Runaway league leaders Hearts are already assured of clinching the one automatic promotion spot to the Premiership, but the back-to-back wins moved Rangers level with Hibs in second place in the Championship table with a game in hand.
With seven fixtures still to play, the Light Blues are now aiming to finish as runners-up and spare themselves the effort of having to play an extra two games in the play-offs.
In that case they would first take on the winner of the match between the third and fourth placed teams and, in case of victory, go up against the second bottom team from the top flight.
That would represent a huge step forward for a club traditionally seen as the biggest in Scotland, but who were consigned to the fourth tier in 2012 for financial irregularities.
As it turns out Hearts will be the opponents at Ibrox next Sunday and McCall insists Rangers will march into that clash with confidence even though they have lost both games against the Edinburgh side this season.
"I feel like we've got some momentum now," McCall said.
"It was a big one on Saturday because we did not want to slip up after such a big performance at Easter Road last week.
"The quality was great at times. David Templeton came in and had a great link-up with Lee Wallace and there were lots of other great performances for us too.
"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't checked the Hibs score straight away. You always come off the park and check how your nearest rivals have done.
"All we can do is keep putting in performances like that and keep picking up the three points, but it certainly helps when we are winning.
"The momentum and belief begins to grow then.
"When I first came into the club, everyone could see the morale and confidence of the players was low, so more results like that will only build it."
