Rocket attack in Quetta kills one soldier
QUETTA: A soldier was killed and three others wounded on Friday when suspected tribal insurgents fired six rockets at the southwestern garrison city of Quetta, officials said.
"Rockets were fired on the cantonment area and one soldier was martyred, while three others were wounded," senior police official Hamid Shakeel told AFP.
Military officials also confirmed the rocket attack, saying that some six rockets were fired from the nearby Murdar mountains on the eastern side of the Quetta valley.
Four rockets exploded close together near military units, a bank and a market, with the loud noise creating panic among local residents.
The other two rockets landed in the Nawa Killi residential area, but exploded in an open area without causing any damage or casualties, the military officials said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
