mooLONDON: European shares briefly edged higher in volatile trade on Thursday after French President Nicolas Sarkozy office said he was to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss euro zone governance issues.

By 1321 GMT, the pan-European. FTSEurofirst 300 index of top shares was down 0.2 percent at 908.46 points having been as low as 891.49 earlier.

US stock index futures were up 0.4 to 0.6 percent, indicating a firm open on Wall Street.
