MADRID: Spanish shares jumped 1.94 percent in opening trade Tuesday as government bonds strengthened, bucking the trend of a global stock market sell-off.
In the first eight minutes of trade, the Madrid market's IBEX-35 index of leading shares climbed 1.94 percent to 8,623.3 points despite major losses overnight on Wall Street and in Asia.
