LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday upheld sentence of two convicts who were awarded life imprisonment on eight counts for facilitating suicide attack on a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bus in Sargodha.
The two-member bench announced the verdict while dismissing appeals of convicts Umer Farooq and Mohsin who were sentenced by a Sargodha anti-terrorism court (ATC).
Earlier, the defence counsel arguing before the court submitted that the convicts were arrested in connection with another case but the police implicated them in the suicide attack case. He pleaded the court to set aside the sentence awarded by the ATC.
However, the deputy prosecutor opposed the request and submitted that the convicts were found guilty during investigation. He contended that ATC awarded the sentence after examining available evidence against the convicts. He pleaded the court to dismiss the appeal.
The bench after hearing arguments of both parties dismissed the appeals and upheld the ATC verdict.
It is pertinent to mention that eight people were killed and 42 others sustained injuries in the suicide attack on a PAF bus in Sargodha in 2007.
