SYDNEY: Australian stocks closed four percent lower Friday and were down 7.2 percent for the week following carnage on US and European markets over fears of another world economic downturn.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 plunged 171.1 points to 4,105.4 after the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 4.3 percent Thursday, its worst one-day fall since December 2008.
