ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior A. Rehman Malik has directed to set up a complaint cell at FM Radio of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) due to its popularity among the people for the resolution of their problems.
Rehman Malik was addressing here an award distribution ceremony held on the second anniversary of ITP FM 94.2 Radio at the Pakistan National Council of Arts on Monday.
"The ITP FM Radio Station is playing an important role in educating the citizens on traffic rules and regulations and its programmes are popular among the people. Owing this popularity, I direct the Islamabad Police to set up a complaint cell there and introduce a programme where people can lodge their complaints about the police attitude or other problems being confronted by them," the Interior Minister added.
He said a police official of SP rank would monitor this programme or cell of ITP FM Radio and ensure prompt action on the complaints of people. He said that it was nice to see the soft face of police here at a colourful ceremony to celebrate the second anniversary of the radio channel.
About the improvement in policing culture, he said through polite attitude and improved gestures, the ITP has won the hearts of people.
Congratulating the ITP on the second anniversary of the launching of FM Radio, the Interior Minister said that the ITP had proved its worth as a model police in the region and provided people better policing.
He praised the performance of police and other law enforcement agencies saying that in a tense atmosphere they had done an excellent work.
He said Pakistan was passing through critical juncture of its history and was fighting a war against terrorists and extremists, who were challenging the government's writ. He said conspiracies against the country could not succeed due to national unity and bravery of the security forces.
On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan said that the FM Radio had raised awareness among citizens about traffic rules.
He said the FM Radio informed the citizens about traffic flow in the city during rush hours and had raised awareness among people about the importance of traffic discipline and traffic rules to ensure their safety on roads.
He said that a large number of citizens were already benefiting from the radio. It would also help control road accidents and promote the concept of safe driving among the people. The service would also ensure better transport facilities and smooth flow of traffic in the city.
SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood also highlighted the achievements of ITP as well as its radio and said that it would further make progress through guidance and cooperation of the citizens. The pioneer chief of ITP Sultan Azam Temuri was also remembered on the occasion and said that the force achieved distinction in his tenure which was being followed by present leadership.
A colourful cultural show was hallmark of the function while the FM 94.2 presenters entertained the audience with their light skits. A poetic tribute with maim was also paid to those officials of the ITP, who lost their lives while performing their duties, which touched the hearts of everyone.
The chief guest gave away awards of best presenters in various categories as well as other related awards. ITP FM Radio Special Coordinator Ms. Ayesha Jameel was given award for his valuable contribution for success of this radio set up. The event finished by cutting a cake to celebrate the anniversary. Former Interior Secretary Kamal Shah, bureaucrats, diplomats, SP Mir Vais Niaz, officials from ITP and their families also attended this ceremony.
