Anjum Aqeel arrested
ISLAMABAD: The Capital police on Saturday arrested proclaimed offender Anjum Aqeel, PML-N Member of the National Assembly, who escaped from police custody on Friday night.
Anjum Aqeel was spotted near Karachi Company in G-9 Sector of Islamabad when he was going to address a press conference, Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan told APP on telephone.
The IGP said police teams traced his vehicle in Karachi Company and escorted it to Kohsar Police Station.
He said since the MNA would be shifted to Shalimar Police Station where FIR No. 115/2010 was lodged against him under Section 409/406 PPC.
He said Anjum Aqeel would be produced before the court on Sunday for a remand.
To a question the IGP that Anjum Aqeel had not surrendered to the police rather he was arrested.
It may be stated that the Kohsar Police Station had not registered FIR against Anjum Aqeel. Hence, he was not required to surrender himself before it.
The PML-N MNA from NA-48 Islamabad was apprehended by Capital police on Friday but he managed to escape from the custody with the help of party workers.
The MNA was arrested from Islamabad Expressway. The PML-N party workers, who had gathered outside Shalimar Police Station, attacked the police party and helped the MNA in escaping from police custody.
