SC rejects petitions seeking to annul 2013 elections

Published Updated

imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday rejected petitions seeking to annul May 2013 general elections.

The three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Nasir-Ul-Mulk took up the petitions.

After arguments with the counsels of the petitioners, the court rejected the applications.

It may be mentioned that the petitions were filed by former federal minister Zahid Sarfaraz and Justice (retd) Mehmood Akhtar Siddiqui.

The petitions stated that Election Commission of Pakistan had failed to hold free and fair elections.

The petitions pointed several irregularities during the May 2013 elections including non-use of magnetic ink as prescribed under the law.
