imageVeteran actress Maggie Smith has been awarded by Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle in England. She was awarded with ‘Honorary Dame’ and become a member of ‘Order of the Companions of Honor’ (CH).

‘The Order of Companions of Honor’ sometimes regarded as a junior class of the order of merit and was instituted in 1917 by George V at the same time as the order of the British Empire was founded.

According to foreign media reports, ‘Downton Abbey’ star was made a member of the Order of Companions of Honor, one of Britain’s highest honors, at a special ceremony at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, England in recognition of her services to drama, stage, television and screen over the past six decades.

Smith enjoyed a brief chat with the Queen before shaking her hand and curtsying. She follows in the footsteps of previous recipients Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench, physicist Stephen Hawking and artist David Hockney, media reported.

Previously, ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Harry Potter’ actress has won two academy awards for ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ and ‘California Suite’. The Two times Oscar winner actress Smith is currently filming ‘The Lady in the Van’ reprising her stage role as a homeless.
