SHANGHAI: China's main stock index ended down 0.2 percent on Wednesday, weighed down by banking shares after Singapore state investor Temasek sold a combined $3.6 billion worth of its holdings in two Chinese banks.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index finished at 2,810.5 points, falling from a six-week high on Tuesday and below its 250-day moving average which had offered support for the last two sessions.
But the index pared the morning session's 0.8 percent loss, helped by electric power companies, as analysts expect the sector to gain due to their low price valuations and from higher power demand in the summer.
