imageISLAMABAD: Chairperson of National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Marvi Memon Tuesday said the joint sitting of Parliament showed collective wisdom to tackle the current political situation and defuse the tension.

Talking to a private television channel, she said seasoned lawmakers in their addresses to the joint sitting reaffirmed the resolve to ensure supremacy of the Constitution, Parliament, democracy and rule of law in the country.

She said there was a clear divide between democratic and non- democratic forces, saying all parliamentary parties were standing united to safeguard democracy and bring reforms to improve the existing system through Parliament, while Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf (PTI) was staging a sit-in for its constitutional demands, she added.

She said the Parliament was the most effective forum to resolve issues being faced by the common man and introduce reforms in the existing system.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Marvi said, clinched a landslide victory in the 2013-elections and reiterated firm stance of the government that nobody would be allowed to sabotage it.

She said majority of youth were with the PML-N, which was reflective from the fact that it secured the highest number of youth votes in the elections. "We are the leader of youth in terms of the factual position," she noted.

Marvi said the country's image was being affected among the comity of nations due to the situation created by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Red Zone of the Federal Capital.

She regretted that a few thousand protesters of PAT and PTI were creating law and order situation in the country, vowing that the government would not bow before the anti-state elements and writ of the state would be ensured at every cost.

The PML-N, she said, believed in promoting democratic norms in the country. There was no short-cut in democracy and if someone pinned wrong expectations from state institutions "he will be disappointed."

She criticized the PAT and PTI for using names of state institutions for their nefarious designs.

Marvi said the NA Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting would look into matters that which elements were involved in damaging and hijacking the national narrative.
