ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday unanimously rejected the demands of resignation of the Prime Minister and resolved to uphold supremacy of the constitution as well as stand guard to protect democracy.
The House rejected the illegal demands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek and deplored malicious language and derogatory remarks uttered during speeches of PTI Chief Imran Khan and PAT Chief Tahirul Qadri.
"This House rejects the unconstitutional demands from certain political parties for the resignation of the Prime Minister and dissolution of National Assembly", the House resolved in a resolution moved to the House by senior parliamentarian Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
"This House deplores the extremely derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory language used by leaders of these parties in their speeches", the resolution stated.
National Assembly also resolved to uphold supremacy of the constitution and sovereignty of the Parliament. This House resolves to uphold supremacy of the constitution and sovereignty of the Parliament which embodies the will and mandate of people of Pakistan and the prevalence of the rule of law", the resolution stated.
The National Assembly reiterated its resolve to ensure that the democratic system continues to function and flourish in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.
