ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE: The White House on Monday said it condemned in the "strongest possible terms" the latest violence by the Syrian government in its crackdown on pro-democracy protests.
White House spokesman Jay Carney, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on the way to North Carolina, also reiterated President Barack Obama's call for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to "step aside" if he refuses to lead a democratic transition.
