european_stockLONDON: Europe's main stock markets steadied at the start of trading on Monday after closing sharply lower ahead of the weekend on Greek debt fears.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index of top shares edged up 0.04 percent to 5,768.31 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 gained 0.08 percent to 7,075.91 points and in Paris the CAC 40 was 0.05 percent higher at 3,807.46.

Europe's top indices had closed down between 1.25 and 1.90 percent on Friday after the European Union said it was studying a possible Greek debt "rescheduling" to ward off the threat of Greece defaulting on its massive debts.
