imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif told National Assembly on Monday that line losses at 100 feeders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA were at 90 percent.

The Minister was speaking before passage of a resolution by National Assembly for extending Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2013 for further period of 120 days from April 29 to continue stern action against power thieves.

The Minister said 2000 megawatts would be added to the national grid in next two months which would reduce loadshedding further.

In the five years of PPP government, people were facing loadshedding of 18 hours a day which had now been reduced to six to eight hours, he pointed out.

He said now the Rental Power Companies would only be paid if they would supply electricity under the arrangement of "take in pay in".

Now these companies would not be supplied oil or given capacity payment and these would also have to get a No Objection Certificate from National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The Minister said Pakistan's economy suffered a loss of $ 100 billion due to loadshedding and people paid the price of criminal neglect of the past government.

In the winter of 2013, protest rallies were taken out in cities but this time nothing such thing happened, he added.

The Minister said Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and Sindh government had to pay more than 50 billion rupees for getting electricity from the national grid.

He assured that the government would fulfill its promise and there would be no loadshedding by end of the five year term of Pakistan Muslim League(N) government.

Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali informed the House said line losses of Sukkur and Larkana supply companies had risen to more than 90 percent, adding the government filed 83,000 cases against power thieves.

He said electricity would not be given to those who were stealing it unless they started paying for it.
