ISLAMABAD: Appreciating the current situation as best opportunity to capture market share, the LPG business forces have geared up to open LPG auto refuelling stations countrywide, with opening of first 15 outlets of the series in three months.
"It is high time to clinch market when the government finds it hard to provide CNG to the stations to open LPG outlets and the same has been line of thinking among the LPG market elements and the initiative would help provide cheaper and environment friendly fuel to consumers," LPG distributors association chairman Irfan Khokhar observed, when contacted on Monday.
He said around 15 refuelling stations would be functional in three months and the number was expected to rise to 50 outlets by different companies, enabling consumers to have access to environment friendly fuel for their vehicles," he said.
According to an official source, the OGRA had issued 40 licenses for constructing LPG auto refuelling stations, across the country to promote LPG.
Khokhar was of the view the initiative would be encouraged at official level, the government could not afford to supply gas to the CNG sector, which had no future in a country where domestic consumers were suffering and power shortage was hitting the masses hard.
"We have high hopes from government to take effective steps for provision of relief to common people by promoting the LPG and encouraging to open refuelling stations, across the country," he observed.
He said the LPG association would be fully co-operating with the government by providing workable proposals to it for resolving issues, for promotion of LPG to extend relief to consumers who were already faced with high prices of daily- use commodities.
However, he called upon the government to take notice of frequent raises in prices of the commodity to extend relief to consumers who were already overburdened with crippling inflation.
He said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) should also play its role by taking action against the unethical forces in the LPG sector, that were extracting money through unjustified raises.
He said the local production's volume was expanding with new supplies including 450 metric from a MOL field, which will be followed by another production of 80 metric ton from Sanjuro field soon, he said.
He was of the view production from several other fields were also expected to be added to the LPG market and the country's total production would go up by more 530 metric ton by June, this year.
Thus, with the massive local supply, the price of LPG would decrease further, and in future no question arose about hiking prices of the commodity, he added.
He also appreciated the government measures for extending relief to LPG consumers, saying as a result of the government's prudent policies the two major LPG producing companies- Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pak Arab Refinery Company (PARCO) kept their base stock prices unchanged at Rs 75,000 per ton for this month.
