ashianaLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said Punjab government has materialized the dream of the poor of having their own house by launching 'Aashiyana Housing Project' first time in the history of the country.

He was talking to media during his visit to the under construction Aashiyana Housing Project in Saroba Atari here on Sunday.

He said that Aashiyana Housing Project was an important step in the long journey towards provision of modern residential facilities to the poor and the common man which would promote a feeling among them that they have as much right over national resources as the elite.

He said 3,000 houses were being constructed in the first Aashiyana Housing Scheme in Lahore and 480 houses would be completed and handed over to the eligible persons in July.

He directed that a permanent system should be evolved for the security, sanitation, maintenance of parks and provision of educational and medical facilities as well as looking after other affairs in Aashiyana Housing Scheme so that residents of these schemes should not face any problem.

The Chief Minister said that Aashiyana Housing Schemes have been initiated for providing shelter to the poor and the low-income people and after Lahore similar schemes will be started in other cities of the province as well.

He said that a quota has been allocated for the disabled, widows, orphans and the families of the martyrs in Aashiyana Housing Schemes.

He said that credit for provision of modern residential facilities to the poor and the common man goes to Pakistan Muslim League-N which had realized the dream of the shelter less to have their own house first time in the history of the country.

The Chief Minister said that high standard construction work is in progress in Aashiyana Housing Scheme and top quality material is being used for the construction of houses.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inspected two completed houses and while appreciating their design and standard directed that the same standard should be maintained in the construction of all houses.

Reviewing the process of provision of infrastructure, the CM directed that the process should be further accelerated.

Chairman Punjab Land Development Company Sheikh Allauddin informed the Chief Minister about the pace of Aashiyana Housing Project.

Members Provincial Assembly Mian Naseer Ahmad, Imran Nazir, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer Lahore were also present on the occasion.
