ISLAMABAD: Power generation in the country on Friday jumped to 14,419 MW which is highest generation in May as compared to previous years.
Hydel, WAPDA thermal, IPPs power generation witnessed significantly increase resulteing in lowering the gap between demand and supply.
The electricity shortfall in the country dropped to 1,733 MW from 2,435 as the total power generation was recorded at 14,419 MW against the demand of 16,152 MW during the last 24 hours.
According to the brief on daily power generation and load-management position, the hydel generation stood at 5,525 MW, WAPDA thermal 1,864 MW, IPPs 6,931 MW and Rental 99 MW.
As many as 710 MW was supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), the report further said.
The hydel and IPPs generation has increased owing to improved water level in rivers and smooth oil supply to power generating units and these stood at 5,525 MW and 6,931 MW respectively.
Water level in Tarbela and Mangla dams was recorded as 1435.30 feet and 1156.35 feet with water outflow of 138,900 cusecs and 40,000 cusecs respectively.
Meanwhile the spokesman of the Ministry of Water and Power said that on the direction of Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, fuel supply to the power plants was being ensured as per requirements so that maximum generation could be achieved.
The Minister has directed Pakistan Electric Supply Company (PEPCO) to utilize all the resources to generate maximum electricity.
The gap between demand and supply of electricity would be further eased out in the coming weeks in June.
With increase in the generation, PEPCO has stopped unannounced loadshedding besides reducing duration of scheduled load-management.
The spokesman further stated that the government is fully cognizant of the situation and taking all measures to enhance power generation to reduce the gap.
It is expected that the generation would further increase from 1000 to 2000 MW in June onwards owing to these measures.
