Rs1146.563mn earmarked for Science and Technological Research

hafeez shaikhISLAMABAD: The government has allocated Rs1146.563 million under Public Service Development Programme (PSDP) for Science and Technological Research Division in Fiscal Year 2011-12.

According to a budgetary document released here on Friday, an amount of Rs1067.563 million has been allocated for 41 on-going projects and Rs.79 million for 10 new schemes in the PSDP 2011-12.

Some of the on-going schemes comprise construction of office building for MoST and its organisation, Islamabad at cost of Rs.200 million; renovation and up-gradation of existing infrastructure of PCSIR, labs, Peshawar at a cost of Rs.60 million; Provision of safe drinking water an amount of Rs.80 million was earmarked.

In other on-going projects an amount of Rs70 million up-gradations of facilities to produce silicon solar modules upto 80KW, PCRET, Islamabad; an amount of Rs.100 million has been allocated for balancing, modernization and rehabilitation of National Institute of Electronics, Islamabad.

Several new-schemes include Establishment of Pakistan Institute of cost and contracts (PICC), PEC; Development of rapid methods for the detection of Pathogenic Microbes, CAMB; Genetic Improvement of Rice for Abiotic stress tolerance, CAMB; Development of DNA based vaccine vecters against hepatitis C virus, CAMB; Establishment of technical training center for the precision Mechanics and instrument technology at Jafferabad, Boluchistan and Up-gradation renovation, reconstruction and modernization of animal house for R & D activities drugs development, evaluation, PCSIR, Karachi at a cost of Rs.10 million each.
