nawaz LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said Abbotabad and PNS Mehran airbase attacks had shaken the nation.

Addressing a Yaum-e-Takbeer ceremony, he questioned that what was the status of the Parliament's resolution in which an independent commission had been promised.

He urged the nation to rise up against the status quo and help him to overcome the situation.

"May 28 reminds me the day when Pakistan tested unclear devices which gave confidence to the nation and defence of the country became invincible. But today, Pakistan is surrounded by dangers despite being a nuclear state."

He lamented that sovereignty of the country was being tarnished. He said that after the nuclear tests during his regime Pakistan was heading towards economic progress when a dictator derailed the democratic process which hampered progress.

"A guard of honour is presented to the man who violated the constitution," he said adding that judges were arrested to extract favourite decisions. "However, today's judiciary indicates that we are a living nation," he added.

"The world stood by Pakistan at the time of the nuclear tests and the US president offered billions of dollars in return for restraint. Now, Pakistan is alone due to wrong policies," he said. Nawaz Sharif said nobody would be allowed to play with the country and all possible efforts would be made to regain its lost status in the comity of nations.

He stressed the need for breaking the begging bowl in the larger interest of sovereignty of the country.

PML-N leaders Tehmina Daultana, Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, Marghoob Ahmed, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman and other leaders of the party were also present while Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Majid Nizami, general secretary PML-N UAE Ch. Noorul Hassan spoke on the occasion.

The PML-N through a resolution adopted unanimously on the occasion demanded an immediate end to the drone attacks.
