CAIRO: Several thousand protesters are around the capital's main Tahrir square, some carrying Egyptian flags, saying they will not leave until President Hosni Mubarak steps down. Army armoured vehicles are stationed there. Police fire shots near demonstrators, not clear if the rounds were live.
ALEXANDRIA: A Reuters witness said the police use teargas and live ammunition against thousands of demonstrators in the northern city. He says the death toll in the city since Friday has reached 20. A witness says Carrefour supermarket is being looted.
Authorities extend hours of curfew in Cairo, Suez and Alexandria so it runs from 4 p.m. (1400 GMT) to 8 a.m. (0600 GMT).
