KARACHI: As many as 94 shopkeepers were challaned and an amount of Rs 195,000 was recovered from them in terms of fine for overcharging in violation to the price list of essential commodities.
The shopkeepers were challaned by the assistant commissioners of sub-divisions, deputy commissioners of five districts of the city, on the directives of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi during the ongoing crackdown against profiteering, said a statement on Friday.
It said 24 milk sellers, nine fruits vendors, 13 vegetable merchants, five food items grocers, four chicken sellers and 39 flour sellers were challaned for violating price list.
The Commissioner Karachi said that the crackdown against profiteers will continue, till the time the sale of essential items is not ensured in accordance with the price list.
