Egypt T-bills climb at auction

Published Updated

imageCAIRO: Yields on Egyptian treasury bills increased at an auction on Sunday, and the central bank trimmed the size of its six- and nine-month offerings.

The average yield on 91-day treasury bills rose to 10.904 percent at Sunday's auction from 10.758 percent last week, the central bank said. The yield on 273-day T-bills increased to 10.970 percent from 10.907 percent.

The bank sold 2 billion Egyptian pounds ($290 million) of the 91-day T-bills, the amount it had sought. It sold 3,085.4 million pounds of the 273-day bills after having offered 3.5 billion.

The bank held its auction for 182-day and 364-day bills on Sunday rather than on the normal Thursday because of last week's Eid al-Adha holiday.

The average yield on 182-day bills rose to 10.929 percent from 10.817 percent at the last auction on Oct. 10. The yield on 364-day bills increased to 10.995 percent from 10.956 percent.

The bank sold 1,312.4 million pounds of the 182-day bills. It had sought 2.5 billion. It sold 4 billion pounds of the 364-day bills, the amount it had sought.
