KARACHI: As per directives of the Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, a committee headed by Additional Commissioner Haji Ahmed visited Jodia Bazar and other main markets to fix retail sale rates for grocery items in the city during September one to September 15.
The exercise focussed to provide optimum relief to the general consumers also took on-board all relevant stakeholders including wholesaller associations pertaining to different markets scattered across the metropolis as well as the representatives of different consumers' bodies.
Special effort was made to keep the exercise absolutely transparent so as to avert any violation of the same, under nay pretext, during the stipulated fortnight.
The committee headed by Additional Commissioner that visited different markets in Karachi, most prominently Jodia Bazaar, also included area magistrate Sajjad Abro, president's and other office bearers of different markets' associations, members of market committees, members of consumers' rights councils, CPLC's Shakil Ahmed and Junaid, Bureau of Price and Supplies' Inspector Rashid, Bureau of Weight and Measurement's Inspector Najib Qureishi and Sarfaraz.
Chief Inspector KMC's Quality Control' Department, Abdul Waheed Bhatti was also part of the committee that undertook visit of different wholesale markets dealing in grocery items in the city.
Additional Commissioner Haji Ahmed and his team checked quality of items besides examining the weighing scales and other relevant gadgets.
The report and recommendations prepared by the committee, related to price of grocery items for general consumers from September one to September 15 would be extensively reviewed and examined in a meeting, chaired by Commissioner of Karachi, on Saturday.
It will be attended by all concerned stakeholder with due consideration that prices fixed for the period are necessarily complied with by the shopkeepers and retailers.
The main intention, said a commissioner official, is to provide optimum relief to the consumers.
