ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Friday informed to Lower House of the Parliament that the sufficient stock of sugar was available in the country.
During Question-Hour session of the National Assembly (NA), Parliamentary Secretary for Food and Agriculture Liaquat Ali Khan said that the commodity was easily available in all parts of the country at controlled rates, adding that the market price of sugar was Rs.66 per kilogram.
He said the growers were facilitated to enhance sugarcane production by providing them inputs like fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides besides provision of agriculture credit on time.
He said farmers were advised by Provincial Agriculture Departments to adopt modern production technologies for getting better results.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that there was a complete monitoring system to ensure timely payment to growers by Sugar Mills.
This year, Liaquat said, around 53.7 million tons sugarcane was harvested in different parts of the country, which was 8.7 per cent higher than last years 49.4 million tons.
