LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presiding over a meeting of the provincial cabinet on Saturday approved proposals of agreements of 120 mega watt Taunsa Hydro-power Project and maping of wind power potential in Punjab.
The meeting also reviewed in detail the law and order situation in the province and commended the performance of Punjab police over successful operation against the outlaws involved in heinous crimes in the Kacha area of Rajanpur.
The cabinet also expressed gratitude to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for providing equipment and logistic support during this operation.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan was facing serious crisis of energy and the Punjab government was working on various projects for getting energy through alternate sources.
He said that during his visit to China, an agreement with regard to the Taunsa Power project will be made with Chinese company China Water and Electric Corporation.
Similarly, the same company will also carry out a survey about maping of wind power potential in Punjab for generating energy through wind, he added.
He said the Punjab government would not have to provide any financial resources in this regard whereas Chinese company will bear itself all expenses for carrying out this survey.
The Punjab government will seek cooperation of companies of other countries in projects of generating energy through wind, he said.
Talking with regard to law and order situation in the province, the CM said that the maintenance of law and order and protection of life and property of people was responsibility of the government and all resources would be utilized for this purpose.
He stressed that the law enforcement agencies should make intelligence system more effective and exchange information with each other so that timely action could be ensured.
He directed that a plan should be formulated for inducting new blood in police force and IGP and Home Secretary should submit their recommendations in this regard.
The CM directed to make preparations for averting any possible flood in future and repair of protective spurs. He said the cabinet committee should consider itself all steps in this regard.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khan Khosa gave briefing with regard to energy projects in the province. Secretary Irrigation Rab Nawaz highlighted important aspects of Taunsa Power Project and wind power projects.
IGP Javed Iqbal while narrating the details of operation in the Kacha areas of Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan, progress in investigation of Sakhi Sarwar incident and law and order situation, informed that 196 culprits involved in heinous crimes had been arrested during operation in Rajanpur.
He said that approval had been given to 41 Riverine Posts and the construction work of these posts was going on while 49 motorboats would also be provided to these posts.
