BRUSSELS: NATO rejected on Tuesday a Libyan television claim that its warplanes bombed the edge of the rebel-held city of Kikla and killed civilians, calling the report "misinformation."
"We can confirm there was an air strike in that region. However, it was 21 kilometres (13 miles) southwest of the town that was mentioned on Libyan TV, Kikla," General Mark van Uhm, chief of allied operations, told a news briefing.
"And the target was two tanks," he said. "This differs significantly from what Libyan television reported. This report is misinformation."
Libyan television said the raid, carried out Monday, killed policemen as well as "a number of children, women and men."
"The entrance to Kikla was targeted by a raid by colonialist aggressors who entered an area where the police control traffic and monitor motorists," the television said.
