Census to conduct under military supervision: ANP

Published Updated

KARACHI: Awami National Party provincial Chief Shahi Syed demanded Sunday that the census should be conducted under the military supervision.

Briefing the newsmen after a detailed meeting of provincial executive committee of ANP, Shahi Syed said they have constantly been receiving complaints of irregularities in census and non-cooperation by the enumerators who are tampering with record to benefit a particular party.

Stressing the government to take notice of such irregularities he said certain elements were seen to visit different areas under the guise of enumerators and misguiding the people.

He demanded Census Commission to order its staff to keep with them their identity cards or otherwise any person found without such ID card would be held and handed over to law enforcing agencies.

Shahi Syed announced that his party would supervise the census process and in this regard all the district presidents have been asked to keep eye on the situation.

ANP leader said his party was trying its best to ensure success of government reconciliation policy despite hardships. "We had announced unconditional support for PPP in Sindh for three years and never tried to blackmail it, but during this period the Sindh government didn't give any development scheme to ANP.

The PPP delegation at Mardan House had assured that our reservations would be removed but the party was never contacted again. Therefore the ANP has decided to give deadline of one month to the government. During this, the ANP workers would hold demonstration every Friday at Karachi Press Club to remind the

The ANP Sindh also demanded the government to expose the political affiliation of accused arrested for murder attempt of ANP leader Bashir Jan like it has exposed Ajmal Pahari, the killer of journalist Wali Khan Babar. Similary political affiliation of other killers should also be made public.
