LONDON: An independent banking commission will consider recommending part-nationalised British bank Lloyds sell more branches than the 600 it has put on the market to boost competition, Sky News reported on Saturday.
Additional branch sales have been expected by analysts awaiting Monday's interim report from the Independent Commission on Banking (ICB), set up by Britain last year to examine making banks safer and more competitive.
The further sale of Lloyds branches would be one option the commission would examine before presenting its final recommendations in the autumn, Sky said on its website.
Last month Lloyds hired JP Morgan and Citigroup to oversee the sale of 600 branches ordered by European authorities following the bank's 2008 takeover of troubled rival HBOS and its subsequent bailout by the British government.
